“Ustalar Ustalarını Anlatıyor” Podcast Series

JOINED BY BULENT EMIN AS GUEST, THE FIRST EPISODE OF THE PODCAST SERIES "USTALAR USTALARINI ANLATIYOR" (MASTERS ARE TELLING ABOUT THEIR MASTERS) BY TURKISH THEATER FOUNDATION IS ON AIR!

Created by the Turkish Theater Foundation, the podcast series "Ustalar Ustalarini Anlatiyor" (Masters Are Telling About Their Masters) started with the first episode joined by Bulent Emin Yarar as guest! Produced with the support of Mey|Diageo, the series focuses on the understanding on mastery in today's world, where the master-apprentice relationship is getting increasingly rare. Each episode of the podcast "Ustalar Ustalarini Anlatiyor" (Masters Are Telling About Their Masters)", moderated by Hasan Sahinturk and Noyan Ayturan, will be joined by one of the master theater artists of today as guest, who will tell about their views on the relevant subject, as well as their masters and their memories of them. The episodes of the series “Ustalar Ustalarini Anlatiyor” will be available on various platforms, including Spotify.

The first episode of the podcast series "Ustalar Ustalarini Anlatiyor" (Masters Are Telling About Their Masters), created by the Turkish Theater Foundation, which aims to explore and reveal those left from past to present and to record what will be left from present to future, is on air.

The series, moderated by Hasan Sahinturk in the first three episodes and by Noyan Ayturan in the following episodes, questions the understanding on mastery in today's world, where the master-apprentice relationship is getting increasingly rare, and makes the listeners to reflect on. With its guests, each episode of “Ustalar Ustalarini Anlatiyor” (Masters Are Telling About Their Masters) questions whether if the master-apprentice relationship still exists in today's world, where everything is consumed fast and anyone quickly becomes a "hero", and whether if this relationship, defined as one of the most effective ways of learning based on the transfer of experience, is a thing of the past or not. The series “Ustalar Ustalarini Anlatiyor” (Masters Are Telling About Their Masters) aims to tell about today, shed light on past and to hand it on to future.

Famous theater artists of today, including Tilbe Saran, Metin Akpinar, Sahika Tekand, Ruchan Caliskur, Suna Keskin, Sehsuvar Aktas, Ipek Bilgin, Yavuz Pekman and Baris Dincel, will join "Ustalar Ustalarini Anlatiyor" (Masters Are Telling About Their Masters) as guest, and tell about their masters and those whom they know as master, and share their memories and views on the relevant subject.  Bulent Emin Yarar, who made a splash with every role and production he played, is the first guest of the series, which also offers an important compilation of our theater history.

“First of all, stop acting like an alien on the stage.”

Telling about how he was admitted to the conservatory and became a theater actor at the age of 24, and about the highly-esteemed figures he crossed paths with, including Melih Kibar, Yücel Erten, Haluk Kurtoglu, Zeliha Berksoy, Oguz Aral, Isil Kasapoglu and Duygu Sagiroglu, Bulent Emin Yarar quoted his teacher Musfik Kenter's words: "First of all, stop acting like an alien on the stage... If you fail to understand each other on the stage, then you will fail to understand each other in life either. And if you fail to understand each other in life, then you will fail to understand each other on the stage either."  Highlighting the fact that there are times when master-apprentice relationship reverses, Bulent Emin Yarar added that there are times when he learns important things from his younger colleagues, too.

ABOUT TURKISH THEATER FOUNDATION

The theater heritage of Türkiye is a strong reflection of the cultural diversity and richness of our country. Protection of the theater heritage brings the forgotten to the mind, reveals the unknown, and keeps the social memory alive. So, preserving our common living culture is of great importance. The rapid loss of theater memory, particularly in a city like Istanbul which has a deep-rooted theater history, and in general, in our country, and the fact that a large part of the society, including cultural and educational institutions, dissociates itself from our theater cultural heritage, as well as failure to protect it and make it sustainable, result in cultural value loss.  Turkish Theater Foundation embarked on its journey with a group of theater persons and academics with the aim to prevent this loss of memory and value, to add a dimension to the art of theater and to create an extensive and holistic archive to theater, which has a well-established tradition in our country.

The founding purposes of the Turkish Theater Foundation include:

·       To gather Turkish theater archive by establishing the Turkish Theater Museum and Research Center, to enrich it, to make it available for sharing, to provide an environment for knowledge generation and to hand on this cultural accumulation to future generations,

·       To explore and reveal those left from past to present and to record what will be left from present to future,

·       To bring together all the layers of theater culture of Armenian, Greek and Jewish communities, which have had significant contributions to Turkish theater, and to ensure visibility,

·       To access all kinds of documentation and living masters about traditional Turkish theater, and to make efforts towards relevant studies and publications.

·       We aim to create a contemporary and dynamic cultural center with a living and sustainable museum, where various cultural events, including theater, take place, and exhibitions are held particularly for children, young people and disabled visitors.
