The 28th Istanbul Theatre Festival, curated by Mehmet Birkiye, will begin on October 22 and run until November 19.
Organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (IKSV), the 28th Istanbul Theatre Festival is preparing to bring together three of Shakespeare's great classics for theatre enthusiasts.
Shakespeare's three great classics will be featured at the festival, interpreted by three master directors. Declan Donnellan, one of the most important directors of our time, will present Hamlet, staged by the Marin Sorescu National Theatre; Nikita Milivojević, an award-winning director, will present Macbeth, in collaboration with the Serbian National Theatre; and Richard III, directed by contemporary theatre genius Thomas Ostermeier and produced by Schaubühne Berlin, will also be part of this year's festival.
After a 20-year hiatus, the esteemed director Declan Donnellan returns to the festival with Hamlet, performed by the master actors of the Marin Sorescu National Theatre, known for its legacy of unforgettable plays throughout its 165-year history. This production, rich in detail, will be staged at DasDas on November 7 and 8.
Nikita Milivojević, a director who has received nearly every theatre award available in his country throughout his over 30-year career, will present his surreal interpretation of Macbeth in collaboration with the National Theatre of Serbia, one of the most significant institutions contributing to the country's cultural identity. This performance will be held at the Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall on November 12 and 13, with high sponsorship from N Kolay.
Schaubühne Berlin, which always brings great excitement to the festival, will stage Richard III, directed by Thomas Ostermeier and featuring star actor Lars Eidinger in the lead role, on November 18 and 19 at Zorlu PSM, after a ten-year absence from the festival. This performance is supported by MeylDiageo as a contributing organization and will take place under the high sponsorship of Zorlu PSM.
