In line with the commitments of the 'Ecosystem 2030: Spirit of Progress' initiative, Mey|Diageo, which implemented 169 sustainability projects over the past year, continues its efforts to contribute to sustainable food and agriculture systems under the principle of 'Leading sustainability from grain to glass.'
As one of the leading organizations in Turkey’s alcoholic beverage industry, Mey|Diageo, with its dual identity as both a farmer and an industrialist, invests in the country's economy, human resources, technology, and land. The company has published its “2023 Sustainability Performance” report, highlighting the progress of sustainability-focused projects aligned with the global ‘Ecosystem 2030: Spirit of Progress’ commitments.

Mey|Diageo General Manager Bahar Uçanlar stated that, since 2020, they have been informing a broad stakeholder group about the progression of their sustainability story through their annual reports. Commenting on the latest report, she said: "The food ecosystem is one of the most significant levers for future transformation. In this context, contributing to the transition toward more sustainable and resilient food and agriculture systems is among our top priorities at Mey|Diageo. We embrace sustainability as our business model and advance with the principle of 'Leading sustainability from seed to glass.' Our aim and input in everything we do, every day, everywhere, is sustainability... In this framework, we are working on numerous initiatives specifically around carbon and water, shifting towards eco-friendly packaging materials to reduce our footprint across our value chain, and focusing on eliminating excessive packaging. We manage our supply chain responsibly and prioritize sustainability in our innovation processes."
Highlights from the 2023 reporting period:
- Water efficiency (l/l) (amount of water used per 1 liter of production) target was 8.32, achieved at 8.27.
- Achieved carbon neutrality in Bilecik by obtaining the PAS2060 certification.
- A 9% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions.
- An 8% decrease in water usage at facilities.
- A project aimed at "replacing more water than used" saved 349 m³ of water.
- The switch from flood irrigation to drip irrigation in Manisa Şahyar has saved 709 m³ of water since F22 (July 1, 2021 – June 30, 2022).
- A project involving the installation of aerators on faucets in schools, hotels, and public buildings in Denizli, Mersin, and Nevşehir saved a total of 652 m³ of water over the past two periods.
- Employee engagement index among monthly salaried employees reached 91%, while the inclusiveness and diversity index stood at 88%.
- The product recommendation score among employees was 93, and the score for recommending Mey|Diageo as a workplace was 60.
- Field sales employees in earthquake-affected regions were supported in transferring to different locations to promote their well-being.
