Manisa Metropolitan Municipality hosted a significant workshop as part of the "Acting Together to Improve Fertilizer Management and Water Efficiency (GYSU)" project led by Diageo. The workshop focused on sustainable initiatives for the Gediz Basin, one of Manisa's most critical water resources, and discussed measures to enhance efficiency in agricultural irrigation. The event aimed to contribute to the sustainability of agriculture and the conservation of water resources through improved irrigation practices.

Attendees included Deputy Secretary General of Manisa Metropolitan Municipality, Oğuz Murat Pınar; Deputy General Manager of MASKI (Manisa Water and Sewerage Administration), Bülent Çamur; project coordinators Dilek Emil and Murat Tiryakioğlu; department heads and branch managers from the Metropolitan Municipality and MASKI, along with representatives from public institutions, non-governmental organizations, professional associations, and private sector companies.

"Conserving Water Resources and Advancing Wastewater Recovery Are Our Priorities"

Deputy Secretary General Oğuz Murat Pınar highlighted the importance of sustainable water management in the face of climate change impacts. He emphasized that projects focusing on irrigation efficiency, water conservation, and wastewater recovery are key priorities for the municipality. Pınar also underlined the vital role of initiatives supporting the Basin Management Plan for the Gediz Basin.

Project Details Shared

The workshop detailed the GYSU project, which began in the Şahyar neighborhood of Alaşehir district and has since been expanded across Manisa. Project coordinators explained that the initiative seeks to address challenges in the Gediz Basin by promoting the "4R" principles in viticulture—right fertilizer, right time, right place, and right amount. Deputy Secretary General Pınar emphasized the significance of implementing this project in Manisa and extended his gratitude to all participants for their contributions.
