Organized under the leadership of the Turkey Theatre Foundation, the “International Theatre Museums Gathering” took place on October 17 at the Pera Museum. With the theme “Creating a Contemporary Theatre Museum,” the event brought together museums known for their unique features. Held for the first time in Turkey, the gathering was supported by the EU Civil Society Program, the Pera Museum, Istanbul Municipality’s Department of Culture, and Mey|Diageo. It served as a platform to explore exhibition principles, methods, and issues around documentation and memory preservation.
The opening speeches of the session, moderated and contributed to by Kerem Karaboğa, were delivered by Özalp Birol, General Manager of the Pera Museum (Suna and İnan Kıraç Foundation), and Esen Çamurdan, founding president of the Turkey Theatre Foundation.
An announcement was made regarding the “Turkey Theatre Museum Architectural Project Design Competition,” created with the support of Enka Art and Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. The competition, open to all architecture students in Turkey and Northern Cyprus, aims to draw the attention of young people and raise awareness of the theatre’s cultural heritage.
